What is a chemical peel?

Without using confusing scientific jargon, a chemical peel is a skin-resurfacing procedure in which an esthetician applies a chemical solution to your face, neck, or hands. Over the course of a few days, the top layers of your skin will peel off (hence the name!), making room for a fresh layer of smooth, healthy, younger-looking skin to grow back in its place. 

While that might not sound too appealing (pun intended), chemical peels have been extensively studied and, when performed by a trained professional, can safely and reliably improve a variety of skin concerns. The procedure requires minimal downtime, making it a great way to rejuvenate your skin without resorting to more extreme (and costlier) alternatives.

At Sweet & Lashful / MENICURE, we use the Jan Marini Peel System, a research-backed, two-step peel system that resurfaces your skin, giving it a dramatically softer, smoother texture. Step one of the procedure involves applying a multi-acid chemical solution to exfoliate the skin, and step two (applied after the peel) involves applying a leave-on retinol activator that contains 1% retinol, anti-aging peptides, and antioxidants to stimulate the healing process.
